Rethink Pink.

Oddly, I didn’t like pink growing up but I’m embracing it as an adult. This month I have bright fuchsia hair that is rapidly fading to a soft pink. I’ve realized pink doesn’t have to be just girly and feminine; it can be strong, nurturing and passionate.

Somewhere Over the Decor

I grew up in a time where watching Reading Rainbow with my sister was our ritual for after school. Lisa Frank was all the rage, and I had a rainbow bedspread.

Nowadays, kids still love rainbows. Maybe it’s because it reminds them of candy, so colorful and fun and well, full of sugar. And rainbows are great inspiration to create a space for kids and really the whole family. It’s wonderful to spread color around like spreading bits of positive energy around the space.

Hello Yellow

Yellow has always made me happy. It should, since it’s the brightest of the bunch within the color wheel. Claude Monet, the impressionist painter, had a whole dining room devoted to it.

I guess this color is contagious.  I’ve painted a bedroom, two dining rooms and my home office now the same yellow (see quote). It can be infectious with your mood as well, creating a sunny disposition. 

Yellow is great for kid’s areas as it’s not too girly or boyish. This color is trending rapidly this year and it’s hard to ignore.

Black & White

Black and white décor has long been a decorating classic. For a new, modern approach, try it in your kid’s room. Keep it child-friendly by mixing in animal motifs and a pop of color like yellow or green. To keep the colors from being too overpowering try adding in neutral colors like khaki or grey.

Bright Hues – A little goes a long way.

In the dead of winter, it can be hard to find any color inspiration amid the gray. Luckily, I work in a place where color never ends. I come by loving color naturally as my hair and nail color change as frequently as the weather. As soon as I see the new products for upcoming seasons, it’s the colors that excite my senses (and hair color)!

Here are some great colors that will warm you up during these last cold days of winter. Raspberry will put some flush into your cheeks. This not quite red is still hot from furniture to rugs. Even just a hint of this Raspberry will perk up any space or face.

Azure, the hue halfway between blue and cyan, will have you dreaming of blue skies and possibly a tropical paradise. This cool to the touch hue, works well with other colors and is easy to introduce to your child’s playroom or bedroom without feeling blue.

 

Talk about hot; with neon Yellow on your mind you could start a fire with this much color. This color from the lime yellow to a mellow version is ready to stoke your senses. Use as much or little as needed to intensify any corner of your environment.

Try this: Sparkle Rainbow Animals

How do I make Sparkle Rainbow Animals?

Step 1: Spray paint each animal entirely. Wait for paint to dry. 

Step 2: Once spray paint dries, dip different sections into different colored paint. 

Step 3: Or, use the paintbrush to create a variety of paint effects like dribbling, dotting and more.

Step 4: Or, gently blend two colors and dip animals in for a swirl effect.
